| Sacred Music at Transfiguration Music is an integral part of worship at Transfiguration. Even our spoken 8:00 1928 prayer book Holy Communion is preceded by an organ prelude. And the 10:15 Sung Eucharist is a joyful traditional Eucharist with extensive congregational singing, led by our loyal and skilled St. Francis Choir. Our music ranges in style from well-loved hymns of the church, to the organ music of Bach and Mendelssohn, to choral music of Ralph Vaughan Williams and Amy Beach, to folk songs and spirituals, to the mysterious musical explorations of Ives and Messiaen, to Bernstein, Copland, and Duke Ellington. If you would like an idea of the breadth of music we experience in worship, take a look at our current music list on this page. |
Transfiguration has had a vigorous choir program
throughout its history. Today’s choir has 15 members, ranging in
skill from new singers to church choir lifers to professional
musicians who just love singing with a group. We rehearse Sundays at
8:00 am, and sing weekly at each 10:15 service. From time to time we
take on special projects such as concerts, evensongs, and music for
the special seasons of the church year.
